How You Can Help With the Oil Spill Cleanup

The oil spill cleanup in the Gulf is under way and one thing being noticed is the animals including dangerous predators are heading closer to shores.

We can't blame them, it is just survival instinct. The really disturbing part of this is what the scientists are realizing. This is happening because the natural habitat for these animals is very polluted with the spreading oil.

So far it made the news that Kevin Costner wanted to help with his patented oil separating device that he spent millions of his own money on and he was turned away because the unit "was not tested".

The latest news is that BP Oil has bought 32 of the oil separators. These 32 have the potential to cleanup 2,000 barrels a day. Maybe this falls into the category of Oil Spill Experiments but it is way better than what we have seen so far. Oil spill cleanup is a daunting task but we have to get it done.

This is not the largest oil spill in history. The Exxon Valdez oil spill was terrible but again not the biggest.

In 1991 Iraq dumped 520 million gallons of crude oil into the ocean. It was 4" thick and covered 4,000 square miles of ocean. It is different when you see it on your own shores. It seems that the powers to be are taking their sweet time. No one wants to take responsibility for this catastrophe.

There are those though that want to help. People like you and me can do our part by getting the word out about what we can do to help. This is the reason for this page.

One website you can visit is: Matter of Trust. They are looking for anyone who cuts hair or grooms animals to send the clippings to them. They place the clippings into recycled stockings to absorb the oil. You can read all about it at their site. Any wool, fur, feathers will help.

It is unfortunate we live in a time where emergencies like this have to be handled by us, the individuals, until the ones with the resources to do the job quit playing their "it was not our fault game" and do the right thing. It does not matter at this point who does the oil spill cleanup. Just that we get it done.

If you help your name and website can be added to the Matter of Trust list of contributors which you can also see on their site.
