Inexpensive Easy Ways to Energy Savings

If you install Solar ,Wind Power, or Geothermal you will experience Energy Savings. The question is, what if you are not ready to install any of these? That's ok because you can still take small steps to reduce your Energy Bills.

Here are some easy, low cost tips to save some money.

  • Check all of your doors and windows and change the weather stripping if necessary.
  • Check all doors and windows for bad or cracked caulking and re-caulk as necessary.
  • Have your insulation checked. Add more if you need it. This alone can save a bunch on heating and cooling bills.
  • Buy and install a programmable thermostat so you can regulate you heat and cooling modes. Turn your thermostat down in the winter and up in the summer. Just a couple of degrees each way can really save money.
  • Set you hot water heater at 120 degrees.
  • Place a brick in the back of your toilet. This will save water.
  • Plug your electronic devices into a power strip and turn it off when not in use. You would be surprised how much vampire power you use in a one month period.
  • The simple act of turning out the light when you leave a room helps.
  • Change to Compact Florescent or LED lights. They cost more but the energy savings outweighs the cost plus they last many times longer.
  • Install water saving faucets and shower heads.
  • Wash clothes in cold water and hang them out to dry when you can. (use your Solar Dryer)
  • Walk instead of drive when you can. Ride a bike. You'll feel better too.
  • Check your tire pressure on the car. A tire under inflated by a few pounds can cost you both in miles per gallon on gas and shortened tire life.
  • Buy some Solar Garden Lights.Line the walkway with them.
  • You could probably think of a bunch more on your own. Once we set our minds to it the answers come easy. Are you the handy type? You could buy a kit to build DIY Solar Panels. Maybe make your own Wind Turbine.

The point is that we can start small and use the savings to dream big.
