Here is Some Information on Green Jobs

Today entire websites are dedicated to listing Green Jobs. Companies are looking to hire Solar Technicians, Installers and even Engineers. They are also looking for Sales and Marketing people.

These website builders network with companies all over the world. It's not just Solar either. The Wind Power and Hydroelectric fields are crying out for leaders. There are Green jobs to be found in these Green Energy fields but what if you don't want to work for someone else?

You want to be your own boss. Work for your own customers instead of some corporation. That can happen too. There is plenty of training opportunities. How about the building trades. You could become a trained L.E.E.D.(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) associate.

This program was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council and is universally accepted. It covers all aspects of building construction including Air quality, Energy efficiency, Water, Materials and Design Innovation.

You could get your MBA in Sustainable Business and start your own construction firm. Build Green and get L.E.E.D. certified. Or just be a consultant for like minded Green Builders. Either way your services will be in big demand!

In the past and even today when you buy a house it is a good idea to have a home inspection done. Some states require the seller to furnish a report before closing. The inspector will check for any structural damage and roof leaks. He will check for plumbing issues including water heater problems. He could look at your duct work to check for leaks.

All these things are good but do they go far enough? Does this inspection tell you how Energy Efficient your home actually is? No. Does the inspector tell you ways to improve efficiency? Probably not.

Unless he is a Certified Energy Auditor he might not know anything about your home and it's Energy Consumption.

You can get your Energy Auditor Certification and be a consultant in both Residential and Commercial. With training you will learn to understand:

  • Air leakage or infiltration. By finding and sealing cracks air loss can be eliminated.
  • Air sealing will both reduce Utility costs and improve the comfort of your home.
  • The importance of proper insulation and where to insulate. You can tell if more insulation is needed or if the existing is installed properly by using Infrared Scanning (Thermography) Proper insulation also reduces Energy use and adds comfort.
  • The importance of Energy Efficient Water Heating. Water heaters use around 25% of the total utility bill. Insulating pipes and putting a blanket on the tank can do wonders. Also replacing an old water heater with the most efficient one available is the key.
  • The Blower Door Test. This test calculates air loss to determine Energy Efficiency.
