Green Celebrity and The Right Way to Spread the Word!
Look around and you will see some famous actor and actress being hailed as the next Green Celebrity. Green stars are everywhere. Some of the better known ones are Ed Begley Jr. and his wife Rachelle Carson. They even have their own show. You may have watched it on Planet Green. It's called Living with Ed.
While I knew that Ed was a longtime advocate of everything environmental I wasn't aware of Rachelle's stance until I visited her website. She has a tip about the danger of using plastic bottles, and while they last forever in landfills they also have a very nasty chemical (Bisphenol A) that leaches into the liquid or food it contains. We learn something new everyday. She goes on to talk more about the little things we can do to help while living green like using all natural green products or eating organic food.
Lets face it environmental news is in the forefront and what is wrong with using celebrity to promote these issues. I see nothing wrong except that in this down economy most of us are not looking to add to our food expense by going organic or buying more expensive products. The other thing that annoys me is when this is turned into a self promoting platform. I sometimes question the agenda when it comes to stars. This look at me I'm Green attitude bothers me.
I indicated that I admire Ed and Rachelle and here are some others. Robert Redford, Woody Harrelson, Harrison Ford, Daryl Hannah, Larry Hagman, Rita Wilson, and Jackson Brown. Here is what I think. They quietly go about their business helping others and the green movement not looking to attract attention to themselves.
Jackson Brown is living off-grid using Solar Panels and a Wind Turbine for power.Larry Hagman has a monster sized Solar Electric system on his 48 acre farm. He got involved with Ed Norton and BP Solar's "Solar Neighbor Program". Not only has his system brought his electric bill down from $37,000 to $13 he also hooked up six neighbors with 3KW systems at no charge.
We now have recyclable and Biodegradable Golf Balls. This just goes to show that on every level we can do our part. We have a cable channel dedicated to going green (Planet Green) owned by Discovery Channel. Emeril is on board with the Emeril Green cooking show.
Renovation Nation with Steve Thomas showcases all kinds of projects using Renewable Energy. If not for Planet Green we might not know about these "celebs" who are using Star Power the way it should be used.
We have Hybrid and Electric Cars like the Tesla Roadster.
It's not just about Solar Energy and Wind Power. It's about finding ways to Save Energy. Don't be shy. Click on the invitation below and tell us what you think about Green Celebrity.
